I discovered 6 years ago that I was not long able to keep tight closed the middle finger of my right hand, lately it spreads because I feel pins and needles and some pain in the top fingers of my right hand. I do write a lot at my job and use the computer although not a lot, I am 53 years old. There is no family history of arthritis in my family. could it be just ear and tear or arthritis? is it worth going to GP I understand there is no cure for arthritis so why bother going to the Doc? Thanks

Pins & needles sensations are symptoms of neurological conditions, while arthritis tends to cause pain and swelling. Your symptoms look like classic carpal tunnel syndrom. This link has info:

I have the same problem. I had rotor cuff repair surgery 5 months ago. I thought it was from the sling and not being able to use my left arm. I had this before the surgery, but not as bad. Mine only bothers me when in bed. If I lie on my left side for a few minutes it hurts real bad and won't stop until I get up for a while. It doesn't bother me if I sleep on my back and keep my arm away from my side. They checked my neck with mri and checked for carpal tunnel. I wore a brace for carpal tunnel, but it didn't help. I think it may be that certain positions stop the blood circulation. It feels like it does when they put the cuff on for blood pressure check. By the way I am a fit 70 year old man. I am not overweight, but have gained 5# lately that I need to lose to keep my BP down. I hope this helps you understand.

"Pins & needles" is not a symptom of arthritis. It is a symptom of nerve compression. Any number of things can be the cause. Pinched nerve in your neck, shoulder injury, carpal tunnel syndrome. You really need to go to the doctor to find the root cause. There are different treatments for different causes.
Good luck.

I have carpal tunnel and this sounds very familiar! If you do not have swelling it is probably not arthritis. You can try taking a supplement with glucosamine and condriotant- it is for joint health. Get an ergonomic keyboard setup for your computer. See the Doc if you can't find relief.

appears like carpal tunnel syndrome. Get a wrist brace, it extremely is going to bypass from mid fore arm to extremely below the position your hands bend. Sleep with it on. take over the counter discomfort relievers like Tylenol as directed, also take food routine B6 as directed on the bottle. If this does no longer help come across an orthopedic healthcare professional, ideally a hand/arm professional.
