if you have a tape player with a headphone jack it is pretty simple. You can get a male to male 1/8 inch (standard headphone size) cord (from radio shack or some other electronics store) for a couple of bucks. Hook that up to the microphone jack on your computer and into the headphone jack on the tape player, then you can record using any software program that records on your computer

there's a software on the marketplace at WAL-ly international talked approximately as "instant music" that works ok. it may convert formats, record sound, and edit recordings. I have been given it to transform previous cassettes and Lps to mp3 and wma. it will take out an excellent variety of the tape hiss and crackle. It takes somewhat prepare and experimentation even with the shown fact that. It costed rather a lot $30 and got here with some piece of hardware to hook stereo cables to a computer. i did not used that. I purely hooked a patch cable between the headphone jack of the stereo and the line in jack on my computer, then used the utility. BTW audacity bites!

You need an analog to digital converter which arent really that common and they are expensive. The best thing to do is to play the tape and record it onto your pc, make sure you are quiet!
