Yes, but if these puppies are new-borns, they should be left alone for the first couple of weeks so you don't stress out the mother. Most of them are nervous with too many family members going in and picking up their puppies. Best to leave them until they're around 3 weeks.

Yes, but if your smell gets on them,the mother will reject them,coz the mother animal,always recognizes her babies by smelling them.They have a certain smell if they belong to her,and if she smells something else on them,she'll think that it's not her baby and she'll reject them.so rather don't handle the babies too much.
