I have a lab mix who requires a lot of exercise. I recently got a new job, and just dont have the time for her needs, I have considered looking for a new home for her that may have more time to spend with her. I have had her since she was a pup, and I am sad to think that she wouldnt be around anymore. I feel bad that she is in her kennel all the time, but I cant leave her in the house because she is too destructive. Would I be doing the right thing for her? I am only thinking of her needs.

I agree with the first answerer.

You love your dog and unless you really don't want her. Find a way to work it out. She will miss you too.

Get up a little earlier to give her a quick once around the block. Then another when you get home. That is not enough but it's the best you have at this time.

Look for someone near your home to walk and play with her.
I signed up for a night puppy obedience class that worked well even during my busiest time I could always arrange to make it to class.

I learned to throw my dogs ball while I read mail and listened to the voicemail and cooked dinner.

Best of luck..

I think it's great that you care enough for your dog to realize she may need a new home with people with more time. I run into so many people who get puppies thinking they have time, then the dog lives it's life alone.
You may consider having her spend time at a doggy daycare with other dogs and people to interact with. It's a more expensive option but you wont have to give up a lifetime friend. You may also try hiring a dog walker.
If you absolutely must give her away, see if a family member, or friend would be willing to take her on so you still get to see her.
If that is not an option hold on to her until you find a decent home... you do not want your baby in a shelter. good luck with your decision!

Actually you're taking the easy way out. You should try to train her not to be as destructive when outside of her kennel. Although walking around the house isnt nearly as good as being outside at least this will suffice until you get the time. Good thing you dont have kids huh?

yes, you need to find a new home for her.

However, you should have thought about this when you got the dog, they are a lifetime commitement, not just an "as you can" pet. You should have also researched the breed a little better before chosing on the breed of dog you wanted.....
you could also train her to not destroy things, or put up a gate in the kitchen with a "puppy pad" type deal down, or tape a trash bag down and put an old sheet or LOTS of news paper down, or go to a nursing home and ask if they have any old pads they don't want anymore, take them home wash them, and put them down..

it's really sad when people do this to their pets.

Think of this poor dog first for a change! Find her a home where she'll actually have some training, exercise, companionship and be with someone who has time for her. You don't have any time for this dog - don't wait any longer. Of course she's destructive, she's not getting anything necessary in her life like exercise, mental stimulation. If you were thinking of her, she'd already be gone!

What about a dog walker she could get out 1 or 2 times with them when you work and then you could come home for lunch.
That would be easy for both of you.
Good lucK, I'm struggling with getting a new job and having pups too.

Thank you for your share. We are in the same position. We have 3 dogs that need new homes. 2 are mine and 1 my husbands. We are both disabled but work part time away from home, that began this past yr. We are no longer home very much. Neighbors are burnt out in doing us favors and I want my dogs to have someone around who can really love and pamper them.. Unfortunately, it cannot be us any longer.

You could hire a dog walker to come during the week while you are at work...or you will have to take the time to find her the perfect home where this situation will never happen to her again!

Do you have a fenced in yard?
I know that around here where I am, they have a doggie day care, where your pets can run and scamper around why there owners are at work. If you have one of those around you might want to consider that. Hope you can figure it out. Good Luck!
