Well that example you gave is not a good one, that was never meant to be a command to be obeyed. If you read it closely it says it would be better, not we should. There is a huge difference.
However Christians are guilty of picking and choosing what scripture to believe. Their mind is made up, don't confuse them with the facts. If you want to challenge them on not believing scripture meant to be obeyed quote Mark 16:16 Acts 2:38 (and point out Peter was answering the question of what must we do to be saved) Romans 6:3,4,5,6, Galations 3:27 Colossians 2:1,12,13,14 1 Peter3:21. Also point out that what Paul said about anyone preaching a different gospel than the bible Galations 1:6,7,8,9
Those scriptures are ones that prove Christians pick and choose.

That's why the bible is such a joke. It is a nice book with nice stories that people can learn from, but when people start using it as "hard fact", that's when I lose all respect for them and laugh in their faces.
