Let's see, first of all when i am having a conversation with a christian it most of the time comes down to weither or not i have accepted jesus as my savior. i would say that in the mind of the christian i am somewhat "less than" unless i have accepted jesus. we will call this insult #1.
i have been accused of being moraly bankrupt becouse i reject religion, the X'ian feels moraly superior to me. not thrue anything i may or may not have done, mearly becouse i fail to share the same belief. we will call this insult #2. now let's adress a line from your question about inteligence, you stated that if i am wrong then when i die i will wish i wasent so smart. well right off the bat you imply that being smart is not such a good thing. supposedly i could go to hell for using my brain. the way i see it is, that if i were designed by some superbeing and that being imparted upon me the skill of thinking objectivly and i used it to do just that and came to the conclusion that said superbeing does not exist, i am to believe that i am now going to be punished .for ever. it seems to me you are again insulting me by telling me that my inteligence as opposed to your blind faith is going to condemn me to a hell. insult #3. I dont even have to bring up all the wars and opression and hatred and slavery that has been forced upon mankind in the name of a god. there can be no bigger insult to people of no religious faith. so the answer is not how insulting non religious people are to belivers. it is the other way around.

Your question is a perfect example why. Smugly insulting those who choose the path of reason, pointing out the horrors that await after death for those who don't believe. Gosh, we're scared. (Yawn.) We certainly don't see the peace and love from most Christians; they attack us at every turn. Reverse the question and ask yourself: Why are those who believe in God so nasty and insulting to those who don't? Then you'll understand where the righteous anger comes from. The only difference is that we really don't care what you believe, but for some reason it's really important to you to make us believe. Hence the conflict.

The second to last sentence is why we are "nasty and mean". I don't give two rats asses about peace and love that Jesus can give me. I already know peace and love and don't need a fictional character to explain them to me. You telling us that is exactly the same as us telling you that you are an ignorant moron and should be exterminated because you don't want to fit into a society. We don't care! If you found that believing in what you believe in has made your life better, fine. But I guarantee you that it will not make my life better. So keep it to yourself.

Not all atheists are that way. Some are nasty and insulting because they are mean. Some may have been brought up in a religious household and their nastiness is really misguided anger at their parents. And I'm sure there are some who are retaliating because when they've professed their atheistic beliefs, some people jumped down their throats and told them they were going to hell. All we can do is pray for them.

"Those who know Jesus as Lord only want you to know that peace and love that only Jesus can give."
The problem is that the people who "just want us to know Jesus" don't always make their remarks in a kind and loving way. "Atheists: What will you do when you're burning in hell???" doesn't strike me as very loving; I think that's pretty rude and obnoxious if you ask me.
Religion is a personal decision that everyone has to make for themselves. Not everyone wants to be Christian; people need to understand that.

We all truly know, deep in ourselves that there is a God. People become angry because they are denying themselves the right to enjoy the blessings and grace that God gives us. They are living with a false God of intellegence, which just like any other false God (alcohol in excess, gambling, vanity, sex, etc.), cannot quench their thirst for truth.

It's a double-edged sword. Do NOT imply that Christians are always kind towards non-Christians. That's a bold-faced lie, and one need not look any further than Yahoo Answers to see that.

I think that ppl that dont belive in God are nasty and insulting to those that do because they are either:
1) jelous that they dont beleve
or
2) they dont think that those that do belive are allowed to be differant because the known belivers 'follow the heard' all the time
