Canola oil is a vegetable oil. Your cake will turn out just fine.
Most products labelled vegetable oil are soybean oil or a mixture containing soybean oil and other edible oils like sunflower, safflower, even canola oil. The blends vary from time to time depending on the wholesale price and availability to the producer.
Canola oil (from the rapeseed plant in the cabbage family) has one of the highest level of polyunsatured fats and is considered one of the healthiest of food oils. It also costs a little more. In my opinion canola has a slight flavor and is not quite as neutral as soybean oil, but in any cake other than "white" cake you probably could never tell the difference. Even in a white cake I wouldn't bother to run to the store, I'd use the canola oil.
When I make a cake mix I usually use peanut oil.

Yes. Canola oil is a vegetable oil.
Canola is a trademarked cultivar* of rapeseed, which is related to mustard, turnip, rutabaga, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, and many other vegetables. The negative associations with the word "rape" in North America resulted in the more marketing-friendly name "Canola."
*A cultivar is a cultivated plant that has received a name under the International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants (the ICNCP, commonly known as the "Cultivated Plant Code"). For this, it must be distinct from other cultivars and it must be possible to propagate it reliably, in the manner prescribed for that particular cultivar. Status as a cultivar is a quite limited one, with nomenclatural consequences only; it offers no legal protection.

In the superstore, fruits are usually selected far too soon. Some are rocks, many are bitter. Some of the fruit and vegetables are generally right (zucchini, onions, garlic, lettuce, greens, and a few others) so I'd have to go with vegetables.
