They must be too lazy. Do you know that the words " Spare the rod and spoil the child" are not in the Bible?

Tradition
They have been taught, orally, that something is true so often that they never check it out for themselves, or don't care to.
Three good examples involve the wise men.
They weren't invited by God.
The Star didn't lead them to Bethlehem, but to King Herod who want to kill Christ.
They arrive when Christ was a boy in a house, not a babe in a manger.
Every Bible says this, though as time passes, that may also change.
Other example is the immortal soul. All Bibles say the soul dies and that the Spirit of life we share with all form of life, none being greater than the other.
Also, not Bible says the Ark was a boat and sailed.

there is a fair amount of scripture that I just know from having read it so many times. But your right in one sense,it would be better to reference something which I usually do when e-mailing back and forth. The biggest reson I don't in here is it is pretty time consuming. Especially if you are doing as you suggest looking to see if someting isn't in there. I can't read the whole bible every time to see if a verse isn't in there. It's not a matter of arrogance at least for me but more a matter of time consumption.

It's the presumption of authority to preclude questioning. Most people won't question the Bible, or what people claim to be contained within.

One of the reasons you see Scripture constantly quoted. It is not man's word that counts. It is God's word that counts and changes man.
2 Timothy 3:16,17 NISB
All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
