How is geometry used in the space program?

Im doing a 2 page report on how geometry is used in the real world and would like some insight on how it is used in the space program.

That's pretty simple actually. Most of it revolves around the Pythagorean Theorem. The ancient romans figured out not only how far away the sun is, but the size of the earth at the equator (and it was amazingly accurate!) by observing the length of shadows at different times of day and throughout the seasons.
