It wouldnt hurt to ween her from a bottle all together. The only reason she's still waking up crying for a bottle is because its comforting to her, and its how she's learned to put herself back to sleep at night.

Just dont give her a bottle at night, or gradually cut down on the number of them. And let her go back to sleep on her own.

I would have to agree that a middle of the night bottle is unnecessary. If you think that she is honestly hungry I would try to give her a substantial snack just before bed time, a cup of yogurt or apple sauce as an example. After that you may need to let her fuss it out a few nights to let her know that we do not eat during the night. As for the bottle, only in America are we the 1 year and we are done attitude about a bottle. While my daughter will take juice, water, and tea from a cup she will only drink her milk from a bottle, it does not bother me that she has it and I know that when she is ready she will let it go, so I let her have it even at 20 months. Good luck and keep up the good work as a mom.

She probably isn't hungry, it has just become a habit. I don't think it is wrong to give her a bottle but it is probably more of a comfort for her than anything else. You could try giving her a sippy cup instead and fill it with water. See how that goes over. People are quick to judge....if you dont have a problem with her waking for a bottle and it comforts her then continue to do so. Sometimes you have to pick your battles and if she is really attached then start slow. If she really seems hungry try giving her more to eat during the day. My daughter is 2 and I always leave a cup with water by her bed, then if she wakes up thirsty she can take a drink and go back to bed.

Good Luck to you, hope it goes well!

She does not need a bottle for nutrition anymore. Give her milk in a cup after she eats her meals. A 17 month old can drink from a normal cup if you teach her. Try not to get in the sippy cup habit. Teach her to let tell you (if she can't say "drink" teach her a signal) when she wants a drink of water, juice is unnecessary. If she gets thirsty bring her to the kitchen and get her a drink. Just like you would do for yourself. When she wants a bottle in the night, again bring her to the kitchen and give her a drink of water. Bring her back to her bed and give her a special blanket, pillow, or stuffed animal. It will take several nights, but if you throw away the bottles you won't get tempted to give in!!!!!!!! You are doing great, you can do this!!!!

START? I have no sympathy for sleep-deprived pushovers like you. You should have "weaned" her off night feedings at about 4 months. She does not need food in the middle of the night at that age, and it is a bad habit that she will certainly not break on her own, you have to do it for her. You need to let her cry it out. Put her to bed and don't go back till morning. Within a week it will be over, and if it isn't, you keep letting her cry it out till she gets it.

she only wakes up because you give her a bottle. if they are old enough to hold a sippy cup than get rid of the bottle. i just took my girls bottles away when they turned 1 yr. didn't have a problem with either. they never even asked for them again. if you must give daughter bottle at night make sure you are only giving her water. your daughter is old enough to not be hungry in the middle of the night

Oh yes, she's too old to be getting up for a bottle. I'd go cold turkey, just stop giving it to her. The first couple of night will be rough, but I bet that's all it will take. Her tummy just needs to be re-trained.
