I've been on Wellbutrin for about two weeks now, and I'm at a 150mg dose at the moment. (My doctor prescribed it for my ADD.) The problem is, I feel like it's not helping me at all. I've become more antisocial, I've started snapping more at my parents, and my ability to concentrate has become worse. (It was bad enough to begin with...) The snapping has to be the worst though... I suddenly feel angry when my parents bring up something I don't really want to talk about, and afterwards I feel bad. It's almost like I don't know what the heck came over me. Also, I feel more depressed than before... is that even possible, for an antidepressant to make you feel depressed?
Well, anyway, I need some advice... Is this normal? Have I been taking Wellbutrin for too short a time to really see if it works or not? Are these side effects? Should I get off this medication? =/ Thanks so much, this is really stressing me out...

Wellbutrin can actually cause these side effects in people who are taking this medication for something else besides major depressive disorder or seasonal affective disorder. Wellbutrin is given to quite a few people for ADD as an off-label use not approved by the FDA and has seen success in treating ADD for many patients. However, this medication can cause you to become very agitated, irritable, and very aggressive toward others if it is affecting the neurotransmitters in your brain in a way that is not helping your ADD. Some patients have experienced these same effects you are experiencing and we suggest for them to talk to their Doctors about switching to a different prescription med for ADD. There are so many options out there such as Concerta, Adderall, Strattera, etc. Every patient is different and you might see great success with a different med. Also, how old are you? Some anti-depressants have been known to cause symptoms of depression and suicide in teenagers and the FDA has released a warning to watch out for any of these side effects in teens. If you are taking an anti-depressant and it is causing you to be more depressed, anti-social, or to have suicidal thoughts, call your doctor as soon as possible to see about switching to another medication.
Basically, these drugs work great in some patients, but can cause some really harmful side effects in others, so I suggest calling your M.D. to talk with him about trying something different.
I hope this helps!

All antidepressant have side effects & they all effect people different ways. Generally it takes 2 weeks to get in your system. U then start feeling like U do. Most times they have to try several till the find the best 1 for U. These are normal effects of this drug. I think there R better drugs out there for ADD, I'm no Dr. Wellbutrin is also used 2 help U quit smoking. Let your Dr. know what's happening. I think they will change your medication. Good Luck.

Weight loss and frequent urination and loss of appetite are possible side effects on the Wellbutrin. Make sure you plan out your meals and eat a good balanced diet - that will help to keep your weight stable. Cut down on caffeine, alcohol, carbonated drinks, tomato-based products, chocolate, artificial sweeteners, and spicy foods since these are known to cause frequent urination. If you feel like you're losing weight too rapidly, then tell your psychiatrist. You should have told them about the side effects when you visited yesterday or whenever it was that you got prescribed the new higher dosage.

Hi, I am going through early menopause (31 y/o) and my doc put me on Wellbutrin for my anger that came with the menopause. I was very moody, mean, and screamed at everyone. Everybody commented on how it calmed me down. Just the opposite from you. BUT, I have a couple of friends who tried it AFTER being on something else. They were on it for depression. It DID make them more depressed. They cried all the time while taking Wellbutrin and eventually went back to their original antidepressant med. I do experience the inability to concentrate and I am not as "quick to comment" as I used to be, which could also be from the menopause. Most antidepressants at your age though cause more depression than they help. Definitely switch to a main ADD drug. Good luck.

Actually, it takes more like 4 to 6 weeks to notice max. benefits after dose titration; however, you may notice them earlier... some do and some don't. It can cause any of those SE's you mentioned esp. insomnia and increased agitation. Take your dose in the morning with food to see if this helps, if by week 6 on it you do not notice getting better, it's time to stop taking it and try something else.

This probably be very useful, but I took this med for depression a couple of years ago. I didn't perceive any help with the symptoms I was taking it for, but did become quite constipated.
