There was religion before Adam that was about the One God. The religions about that One God since then are the same religion if you can accept it. They are like the grades in school whose design is for the progress of the student. The Religion will lead to peace and justice on earth. We humans will recognize that we are all one thing, made by one Creator.

The first religion went something like this: "AAH! Scary things! Obviously something more powerful than me is angry. We should make it happy!"

And there ya go.. the basis for religion as we know it. Religion was originally just a group of people who didn't want to die by some natural disaster they couldn't understand. It has no name. It was just simply the way they lived their lives: trial and error, worshipping whatever they thought could help them live through the day.

The Macedonians were the first recorded religion. Although this does not make it the original.

Atheism. People were probably unsure of Gods when they were living in their caves.

The "Pagan" religions and Judaism are probably the most original, though.

well, some of the most ancient artworks are of small goddess figurines dating back to the Upper Paleolithic era some 30,000 to 15,000 years. it is not known for sure if these carved figures represent female deity but the conjecture of many archaeologist is that these ancient figures are representations of a fertility goddess.

PS. these figurines predate Abrahamic religious traditions by at least 10,000 years. a fact lost on folks who believe the Earth was created 6000 years ago.
