If it works to make a person to be more altruistic and kind towards their fellow man, better stewards of their environment (i.e. this planet we live on and surrounding universe), etc. then who cares what religion they practice? I don't care if they crunch granola and dance naked in the pews...

===== STORY ====
New scripture was recently found and added to the bible. It's only 1 sentence long.
"A man Throws 3 white pebbles into a pond and then 1 black pebble."
===== REACTION =====
- The athiest-scientist will argue weather the man really exhisted and weather there is proof, and if the pebbles can be found at the bottom of the lake. The pebbles are never found.
- The christian scientist will spend his whole life constructing a satellite that will scan every lake looking for the pebble, he will probably die and never find it.
- The average christian doesn't know anything about it. Normal christians never read the bible. They just claim to be christian.
- The hard-core christian will blindly believe that the man and the pebbles do exhist and that they should never be questioned regardless of any evidence found.
- The historian will argue that the story is unoriginal and was originally written 1,000 years earlier before any record of the pebbles or the man. Therefor the story is a ripp off.
- The anti-christian atheist will automaticly assume that the story is false and meaningless, regardless of ever reading it, simply because the anti-christian athiest has gripes with christianity.
- The normal atheist won't care and will get on with their life.
- Richard Dawkins will write another book on the matter, "The Pebble Delusion", Like his previous books, "The Santa Clause Delusion", "The Chi Delusion", "The Allah Delusion", "The Buddist Delusion", "The Jewish Delusion", "The String Theory Delusion", "The Meaning of Life Delusion", and "The Lets Be Open Minded Delusion".
- The 700 club will call this a sign of the end times as usual.
===== MY POINT =====
Stories are important, they are used as a message, to LEARN something. A story is a message. Regardless of who has the evidence and who has the faith, everyone is being close-minded. Everyone is ignoring the message.

The so called myths, stories & ill rational stuff are just part of religion. Religion has many parts, religion teaches who, what, when, where, why, right from wrong, respect, trust, faith, fellowship, community, awareness, love, humility, responsibility, honesty and more but enough that gives you the basic idea. I am sure that when you went to school or if you still are in school that you find that there are many subjects in books that you feel would be better if they didn't have myths, stories and ill rational stuff but how else would you learn. The bible is kind of like a school book, it is to give the basic idea or facts and you are to learn the basics that are mentioned above. Religion is a tool like education is a tool and that tool is used to teach you to live your life within guide lines that will help you be successful. I just wanted to give the basics but I hope that all who read this will look at education differently, even if you don't believe in religion it teaches many good things that all can live by.
To all a great NEW YEAR...

Without the 'myths' and 'stories' and 'irrational stuff', religion would be nothing more then having Faith. It couldn't work because so many people need to be guided into their beliefs, reassured because so many other people are with them. The scriptures and ceremonies involved in religion help make it seem more real, and help people feel like they belong somewhere in a world where everybody must fend for themselves.
Religion might be better to follow without all the 'irrational stuff', and I find it so myself, but it's unfair to say it would be better for other people. Religion would be much better to follow if people were more tolerent of those who believe different myths, stories, and irrational stuff then they themselves do.

I have always been a big believer in Jesus Christ Our God since I was little. But only just recently my faith has been stronger by serving him, our lives are changed once you know him. It is much better to believe in God and to fear him. Like say when a person dies they did not believe in him when they were in this world and found out later but there was a God and it was too late for them. He is real. Where would you want to spend eternity? God will try to pull at you different ways to show you he is real. God will do miraculous things for a person who believes and serves him.Here's a verse from the bible: John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

No. A relationship with God is far better than religion. Relationships are never entirely rational.

I don't belong to an "organized" religion, but mine has tons of myths and stories...we just don't have someone dictating everything else in our life.

You sound like Thomas Jefferson. He re-wrote the Bible without it because he didn't believe that Jesus was the son of God, but he liked the ethics. It is an interesting read: http://www.angelfire.com/co/JeffersonBible/
And I bet some of you guys thought he was a Christian.

It would be fine if it just said, "Look. Jesus was a nice guy. He's dead, and that's all he was, but if you could try to be like him, you will have a better life. While you're at it, try to be like all the other nice people out there today who are making a difference in the world." That I could handle. The rest is just garbage.

Religion would be much better to follow if it didn't have people who don't even believe in it devoting their whole lives to opposing Jesus Christ and his followers.
