Ive had Major TMJ (TMD) for years now, and been able to handle the pain ok with shiatsu and essential oils. Occasionally I will have to take pain killers to relax the muscles on bad days. Today -I've got a different kind of pain - behind my eye. Pain killers aren't working, oils arent working, heat/ice arent working. Should I go the Hospital or get my Shiatsu therapist to work on it? Whenever I move my eye a certain way it sends a sharp pain. Whats your opinion?

Mumoffour- Thanks for your answer! Sorry to hear you suffer aswell. It could be possible - I have had a cold/Bronchitis the last 2 weeks. I've tried clearing my sinus's but alas - I don't think I can get it all. Maybe you are right - how would I go about clearing them without taking sinus pills to kill the pain and contracting them (more problems!).

You should make an apt. with your doc & get your current pain checked out.
I've had TMJ & improved my problem with limiting my jaw movements (not opening my jaw to the point of pain).
You can use a Neti sinus pot to help rinse out your sinuses with warm salt water.

Dentists make an appliance called a "Bite splint", it prevents TMJ pain & damage, such as tooth fracture, caused by clenching and grinding one's teeth. Especially helpful when worn at night, but, should be worn during the day, also.

A bite splint is costly, but worth it! If you do get one and have a dog, be aware, the dog may chew it up because it has your scent. One lesson learned, the hard way!

Bless your heart, I just found out that I have TMJ too and the pain can be excrutiating. I went to a chiropractor who discovered that my jaw was displaced. He adjusted it, and so far, so good...no more pain. I do take anti-inflamatories daily and sometimes have to take pain meds too. Mine hasn't ever hurt behind my eye though. Do you think it could be a sinus headache instead of your TMJ?

I went to a Maxofacial surgeon first...then to an orthodontist for braces for over 2 years.....now a night splint...
My surgery on my joint (it had locked) really solved my pain problem and never on pain meds....the braces helped to correct the bite problem that was throwing the joint off....
Good Luck
