I have a fauxhawk, and it is a huge problem to get under control. I have relatively short hair, but all gels i have tried (mostly L.A. Looks) have not worked for me at all. I need it to have strength, NO WHITE RESIDUE, Easy to wash out, and still have that wet look shine. Please help!

Use Fructis Hair Fiber Gum. It holds anything and os easy to wash out. Plus not residue at all.

ICE Spiker is phenomenal if you like a gel or Hard Up Gel from Sexy Hair Concepts but realistically, I would recommend a great pomade like Redken Rewind. It's pliable and you can work with it through out the day. Most of my Fauxhawk guys would rather wear a pomade than a gel.
Many gels will tend to flake but if you put a drop of leave in conditioner with it, that will help with the flaking. If your white residue is left after shampooing your cheap gel with your cheap shampoo I can say.........avoid the drug store!!!!!! But, if you can't remember this....many gels and finishing sprays contain a large amount of glucose (Sugar) when the water hits them it makes a sugar paste that is not removed with the shampoo. Simply let the warm water run through your hair until you feel the glucose get "Slippery" then and ONLY then apply your shampoo and it will remove the buildup much more efficiently. If you still have build-up, make a paste of Baking Soda and put it on your hair for about 10 minutes before shampooing it out.

I would suggest using hard head Mohawk gel for spiking and ultimate hold by tigi in the bedhead line.

Runs about $15 - $16 bucks but it's awesome. My fiancee rocks the fauxhawk and he uses this. Lasts all day and washes out easily and doesn't build up residue which is what causes the white flakes.

I can give you a 100% guarantee on this one! Go get Got2Be (brand) glued (product name). It comes in a bright yellow bottle and it will work wonders. I spiked 2 feet of hair into a mohawk with it before, and I use it for glue too. It is that strong. It comes out with a clarifying shampoo, try pantene. And it wont leave white residue or flakes. Just make sure you dont leave goops of it. I think this is not sold in most drug stores, not sure. I know you can get it at most salons though.

As a professional I would recommend:

electric wax 11 shine fused texturizer

Shock hair with texturizing shine. Pliable wax formula glides on to ignite deconstructed texture, high-definition control and shocking electric shine. Redken's exclusive Bonding System blocks humidity for lasting frizz-free power. Give your style a jolt.

you will pay a little more money at first but you dont need to use gobs of the product for it to be effective. You'll Love It!!

Paul Sebastien's Foaming Pomade. It's the bee's knees. It lasts all day, give's you the wet look but it keeps your hair soft not all crunchy like a lot of gels and waxes do.

you're going to have to go with a higher end brand, not cheap LA looks. get an extra strong hold gel/pomade/whatever or hair glue.

also get clarifying shampoo to wash with so you won't get nasty buildup. which can cause flakes.

If you want it like legit realllly hard, "got2b glued" is realllyy good. But you have to style it first, then spray, and it holds in place all the time.
