i'm 20 and i take the one-a-day walgreens brand for men, anyways whenever i do within an hour my stomache starts hurting me and i actually have to take diareah medicine to counteract that, as i'm in the bathroom alot when my stomache hurts. it just goes right through me or something. is it normal from lacking vitamins then getting them all in my system, or are these too strong for a 20 yearold? maybe they have older men in mind with these. help?

thanks.

It depends on several things. First, you should never take a vitamin on an empty stomach as many people react strongly to them. Secondly, take it after dinner before you go to bed. My doctor recommended this when I had the same problem and it helped immensely.

Are you taking them on an empty stomach? If so, take them with food since Vitamins A & E need food along with them to properly get similated into your system. I would also try switching brands of vitamins. Unless you have a super sensitive stomach, these should not be causing pain and diareah; it could be likely you're allergic to something. If you buy a multi elsewhere and have the same reaction, then stop. You made need to add the vitamins and minerals to your system one at a time to see which one causes the reaction. IE: Take vitamin C for a week. If OK, add Vitamin B (Comblex B!). Go one down the line until you get to what is causing these syptoms. Are you alergic to fish? If so, avoid multi vits with Omega 3 in them.

You should always take your vitamin with a meal. The fat in the food helps the vitamins to be absorbed and slows their absorbtion so the kidney don't flush them all out of your system so quickly. Also look for a one a day that is time released. The food will also help settle your stomache.

Either stop taking those vitamins or try taking them with food. Vitamins on an empty stomach can be harsh and make you feel sick. If that doesn't help, switch vitamin brands or discontinue vitamins. If different vitamins with food still doesn't help, see a doctor. This doesn't sound normal to me.

It is not uncommon to feel sick after taking a vitamin. It is important to either take the vitamins with a glass of milk, or eat something right before taking it. You can have a snack or take it immediatly after eating a full meal. I hope this helps!

Stop taking them! Could be an allergy, or too much fiber... who knows? Ask a doctor. Diarreah is acidic, so that could be eating holes in your intestines. And pain is always a bad sign.
