Everyone has various coping methods, some are legal, some are not. Other coping methods are healthy, whereas some are not. Drinking excessive alcohol certainly are categorized as one of the unhealthy coping mechanisms which can cause many health issues later in life. As far as wondering if you're an alcoholic, this really is an individualized decision. Many folks drink a glass of wine (or two) for dinner, does this make them an alcoholic?
The reasons for drinking is what needs to be questions, are you drinking to escape problems & situations in your own life or are you drinking (within moderation) to relax in the evening?
As far as this being healthy; well, no, it's not, especially with vodka which contains a large amount of alcohol. This will eventually lead to health problems (especially liver) and possibly legal problems (DUI etc.).
Perhaps what you need to think about is exploring other coping mechanisms, such as going for a run to relieve stress, or watching a scary movie (this works for me), or reading a good book. I know . . . not nearly as fun or quick as drinking, but certainly healthier for you.
Best of luck with the new year! :-)

If you aren't already an alcoholic, you're on your way to becoming one. You are using the alcohol to work for you like your own brain should work for you. Alcoholism is usually started just like you are talking about. In fact that was how I became an alcoholic, I wanted the pain and stress to go away. It is a way of escape at first, but then we over use the alcohol and you become an alcoholic, but personally, I think you already know the answer to your own question. or you wouldn't be questioning yourself. Listen to your gut, and go to AA and work the 12-Step program. There are few that doesn't have success, but only those that can not get honest with themselves, and really doesn't have a desire to quit drinking. If you are willing to be honest, and really want to stop drinking, the program will work for you like it has for many, many people. I am a recoverying alcoholic of 8 yrs. and I went to AA.

Is it bad? well, it is not what any mental health professional would call healthy. You need to find better ways of dealing with your stress. Excersize, meditation, prayer, and especially talk therapy are great places to start. Now, Im not going to say that is is bad to have a drink every once in a while... There are many people who at the end of a hard week will unwind with a glas or two of wine. Three shots of vodka might be pushing the limits on that though.

yikes, i think anytime someone has to drink to calm down, they have some sortof issue. Maybe you could learn to control your stress in other ways? Go for a run, take 10 deep breaths.
Would hate to see you get behind the whell of a car with that amount of alcohol in your blood. You could hurt someone or get a DUI.

Stop drinking. It's bad for your liver. If you feel stressed out, go to a gym and workout.
