A fever is the result of the body adjusting its thermostat (located in the hypothalamus). When you have a fever, the thermostat is turned up, you are colder than your thermostat is set for, so you feel cold, even though your body is warmer than normal.

If you think your cold but your body is warm that usually means you have a fever. If your side hurts, your appendix or something could be infected and you should see the doctor ASAP.
