I agree with you.A child which is able to read is ready to stay alone at home. But I disagree with writing the rules on a piece of paper.Better just talk with the child and explain what he/she has not to do in order to be safe. Then there is no problem for a child to be left alone at home.

Leaving little young children home alone? Not in this day and age. Writing stuff down on paper does nothing if someone breaks into your house, or they choke while you are gone.

Plus what child do you know that would listen to all of those rules that's 6 or 7 years old. Not to mention it's illegal to leave children under a certain age hone alone. You'd get thrown in jail for child neglect, and get your kids taken away from you.

If you are a parent, call me up the next time you do this so I can report you and your children can live a good life with parents who care. K thanks.

Well, considering it is considered neglect to leave small children at home... If something DOES happen while a young child is left alone and the emergency services are called, your children could be taken away from you and you could be jailed for neglect.

And kids panic in emergencies. Notes don't help panicked kids.

Finally, kids look at no-parents as an opportunity to do things they aren't allowed to do. I remember doing VERY stupid things when left alone by my parents when I was a child--and I was actually one of the less-impulsive ones! You should have seen the stuff my friends and brother would do. If you want to come home to kids with home-done haircuts, burns, and superglued lips, then by all means leave them alone.

What if the house started on fire, someone broke in and maybe kidnapped your children? How would they be able to cook something to eat? They are too young to be able to reach or even use a stove or oven. How many young kids actually can read? Like it has been said before, it is illegal to leave children home alone until they are 12. I sure hope you aren't a parent and do this to your children. If you are and do, I sure hope someone turns you in to the athorities for it. Talk about irresponsible!!!

because it's against the law. because parents are concerned about keeping their kids alive. Any age under 14 should have a responsible adult to look after them and make sure they don't burn the house down.
I'm taking it that YOU are the young child that can't be left alone. Most young children DO NOT want to be left alone unless they are wanting to do something bad that they can't do when their parents are at home. It's to protect EVERYONE involved. The children, the parents, and their home.

Little kids are impulsive. They might not be able to resist doing things that they aren't supposed to do.

Leaving little children home alone opens up opportunities for predators.

What if something went wrong? Could the parent live with themselves afterwards?

And leaving young kids alone is illegal and considered child endangerment/neglect in most (probably all) states.

Most kids aren't going to listen to a piece of paper. Maybe a teenager, but I think a kid shouldn't be left alone until around 12 or so.

Because your parents love you and don't want anything to hurt you. Rules of the house aren't the only things on their minds. Fires. Home invasions. Accidents. Be thankful you parents love you and there is nothing off limits when it comes to a young child's "stuff", unless you are referring to your privates. Parents are obliged to know what is going on in their child's life. Deal with it.

it depends on the age of the children. but there are reason you do leave young kids in the house alone first anything can happen .just saying somebody brakes into the house or one of the kids get sick and have to go to the hospital they can't take themselfs.

HUH? Because "little young children" shouldn't be home by themselves. It's illegal in most states for them to stay home until they are 12. I'm still nervous about leaving my 12 year old. It's called being a parent.
