Advice for braces? Hmm when you first get them be sure to have soft foods to eat because it is really difficult to chew anything at first because your mouth isn't used to all that stuff in it. Plus it kind of hurts the first couple days after you get them. Ummm brush your teeth REALLY good and use the flouride they give you because it really does help prevent cavities and spots on your teeth after the braces come off. ALWAYS wear your rubber bands. The more you have them in the faster you get them off. I added like 3 months onto my sentence (of braces LOL) because of not wearing my rubber bands enough. Hope this helps and good luck! They are worth it! ;D

What kind of braces? Have you decided? If you can, I'd recommend you opt for the InvisiLine treatment - not having any one notice them is a small plus. But, being able to take them out and properly clean your teeth is great.

If your opting for traditional braces, make sure you floss well before hand - it will be your last chance for at least a year!

After 3 years in braces I just got mine off. I suggest a good toothbrush (Sonicare is what I used) it will help cut down on the buildup that can occur with braces and the amount of flossing you will have to do.

Brushing is the key so that your teeth don't stain sround the glue spots.

*****Get a waterpick at the drugstore or Walmart or somewhere.**** Otherwise, bread, pasta, and similar starchy foods will get caught inbetween the wires. Don't expect to eat steak easily, stick to ground beef, poultry and fish. Be ready for the possibility of being sensetive to cold or hot liquids.
Otherwise, the others gave some great advice! It isn't too bad once you get used to them. Just keep brushing often (any food caught is small tight places causes bad breath too) and keep the tarter from building up. I love my waterpick. It gets out alot of stuff the toothbrush just shoves around. Good luck.

The only advice I can give you is to brush your teeth like you've never brushed them before. Brush five, six, seven times a day if you have to or else you'll end up the most hideous white marks on your teeth that no bleaching can fix, dentists will tell you they can be but honest ones will inform you other wise and that you'll need veneres to cover them up! So brush, brush, brush!

My first suggestion, don't get invisible ones, it's more fun to have thhe experiance, second of all....eat soft foods for the first week or so. I've only had my braces for 3 months...oh and everyone says it's hard to chew gum...but it really isn't. Good luck.

So far everyone's advice is right on target...the only other thing I can tell you is to make sure you do NOT get your wire changed before a holiday dinner.

Many a lovely dinner was ruined for me because I got my wire changed the day or a couple of days before...

I am glad that I got the regular braces. I hated just not getting to eat my hard candy, popcorn, and ice. Ice makes the cement turn loose and then you get in trouble. good Luck
