Considering all the hatred they tote around for those who don't share their beliefs, I often wonder if they even have hearts.

I know! And they keep saying to "let the love in". Don't they know that love doesn't come from the heart, it comes from the brain? Maybe they should be telling us to "open our brains".
Besides, they can't be qualified. Remember Madonna?
"Open your heart me / I'll hold the lock and you hold the key..." (which makes no sense because if he's supposed to open his heart, wouldn't he be the one holding the lock)
it's all too confusing for an atheist to understand, I guess :-(

No. Only the Holy Spirit can regenerate your heart. This usually occurs through the preaching of the true gospel. Jesus is the key to salvation. God is going to judge everyone according to his righteousness. If you have ever lied, stolen, lusted, hated, coveted you will be guilty before God. If God judges you based on these things called lawlessness or iniquity, we would go to Hell not Heaven. But the goodness of God is this: while we were still sinners, He died for us. Christ died for us. Death was defeated when Christ arose from the grave. Now through Jesus, we also can be forgiven of our sins by repentance and trust. We stop doing our sins and we trust Jesus on the Day of Judgment to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

They aren't saying that they are going to be the ones doing the procedure. Seems like they are telling us to perform the procedure on ourselves. I'm an art school drop out. I don't think I'm qualified.

i really don't understand what you mean.
but if you'd stop thinking of people as labels, such as "christians", it would be a good idea.
When they say open our hearts they want you to open your heart and accept God and have faith in him. They're not doing this for selfish purposes, they're doing it to make you happier.
