Dilaudid has many side effects.....muscle twitching is definitely one of them. Perhaps his doctor can have another pain med in the infusion pump - this is unnecesary torture.

Yes,jerking can be a side effect from dilaudid.I have severe crohn's disease and when i am in the hospital they have me on the dilaudid pump and at home i take the pill's.I too jerk from it.I don't know if you know it or not but Dilaudid is a synthetic form of Heroin.

Adverse Effects

COMMON

* Gastrointestinal: Loss of appetite, Nausea, Vomiting
* Neurologic: Asthenia, Dizziness, Sedated, Somnolence

SERIOUS

* Cardiovascular: Disorder of cardiovascular system, Hypotension (frequent)
* Neurologic: Confusion, Myoclonus, Seizure
* Respiratory: Apnea, Respiratory depression

The jerking he's experiencing is the Myoclonus you'll see under the "SERIOUS" adverse reactions... Might want to talk to the doc.

In 43 years I have never seen this side effect, nor has the manufacturer. It sounds like he is not getting it often enough and is having some withdrawal.
