Recently some of my phone lines have not been working. I called COX and they sent a technician, who found that an electrician had run the telephone cables through my furnace and hot water heater, any idea why he did this?

The only rational reason I can think of is that controllers use microcontrollers more and more in new designs. It is conceivable that they could diagnose the system and call in status/trouble reports by telephone. If so, it would seem the owner of the system would be notified this ability has been provided.

The other reasons I can think of are pretty stupid.

So either these are some pretty state of the art systems, or the electrician was incompetent or you are yanking my chain.

It's a logical explanation for that. You former electrician think that you are stupid. But if you report him, then he will see who have more brains than who. He did that to make the work easier or to get a good salary. People like that are called convicts.

Bye bye
Good luck!

Sounds like Daniel is right. A lot of HVAC controls have dial tone running to them for diagnostic purposes. Notify the HVAC company that their equipment is killing the phone line.
