After giving birth to my second son, birthcontrol pills were too hard to remember for me, I decided to get an IUD because I was only 23 and the military hospital won't tie your tubes until your 25 in case you decide you want more kids. I had the IUD put in 6 weeks after giving birth. It was a 15 minute appointment, it was just the same as having a pap done. I was baby free for 7 years then finally went in and had my tubes tied. I loved it. I recommend it to everyone because the hormones in birthcontrol pills are so bad for you. It is easy, it is always there even if you forget, it is painless, it is amazing! Do it and love it and still use condoms for disease control please! A long time ago there were all sorts of worries that came along with IUD's like they caused you to have abortions each month and when you tell your obgyn that you want info on this he/she will go over all the old myths and the truth about them. Don't believe what you read in here about how bad they are. It is plastic and copper and it not some hormone pill or a shot that stops your normal period and makes you gain weight. People are often uneducated about things and speak on it anyways.

I am very happy with my IUD. I have the copper IUD, and it hurt like hell when I had it inserted, but only because I have never been pregnant. I do have mild cramps before my period, and it's a bit heavier, but it's very liberating, compared to the crazy mood swings, high blood pressure, and all the other side effects the pill, the patch and the ring gave me.
IUDs today are much more different than IUDs in the 80's

I also had a lot of issues after having my children with birth control pills. I had the copper IUD implanted last november and my body rejected it. Unfortunately it was an expensive trial for a new form of birth control. I am glad i tried it, many friends have it and love it. But the rejection from my body was quite painful, very similar labor contractions. Let me know if you find anything else that works!

The Mirena IUD has hormones similar to birth control pills (which is why that answerer hasnt been getting periods) But they do make long-term IUD's with no hormones. I considered it, but i was worried about it causing heavier bleeding annd cramping. My mother used one for ten years, got pregnant three months after it's removal, so its pretty safe! but yes, she did have very heavy bleeding during those years.

I had one for about a year and a half, and I got the strings trimmed and mny boyfriend swore he could feel the stabbing his penis, (so dont trim the strings) and my menstrual flow was way way heavier but besides that I had no problems. But it just seemed uncomfortable, mentaly having something inside of me all the time. I got it removed about a year ago and now Im 29 weeks pregnant. The only discomfort I had was getting it put in, ask for some local anistetic and getting it removed, but that was nothing compared to when they put it in. I would recomend it it doesnt have any hormonal side effects, sexdrive wieght gain, mood swings, nothing like that and you dont have to ever remember to take a pill or replace a ring or patch its much easier.

I had a really bad experience with my IUD. I had the mirena for less than a year. I had a lot of bleeding and pain. After sex I felt bloated and my husband could feel it. But my sister in law has the 10 year copper one and loves it. I had mine removed at the begining of last year and got a depo shot which caused me to put on some weight.

I have one right now, its Mariana and i really like it, i mean 5 years it lasts and no periods how awsome is that? they really are good, and you can't get pregnant with this either its more effective than getting your tubes tied, what it does is blocks sperm and makes you have little or no utran wall lining. i really do recommend them. I had a problem with the pill and i'm terrified of getting shots, the patch was the only thing that worked but they took that off, so get the IUD it may be pricey but its worth it!

I have heard of 2 stories . My husbands ex girlfriend got pregnant on the IUD due to it not being in place right . Then my husbands sister wound up in the hospital cause it made her blood pressure get irregular and there was something else it cause but can't remember what it was . I know the depo prevera shot has no extra hormones . Might want to try that . Plus it is one that i have not heard of any problems but the weight gain . But don't all birth control make you gain weight .

I have one right now. The Mirena...it's good for 5 years. The pain when they inserted it wasn't very bad, felt like strong cramps. Side effects are minimal. Even though they say your period might stop, I've had mine for almost 5 months and it still hasn't completely stopped them. My only complaints are that sometimes my fiancee hits the wire and complains that it hurts and my period is a little odd. Like it'll stop for a couple days then start again. But other than that, it's perfect. Just remember that condomns are still needed to protect from STD's.

I personally have never had an IUD, but my exmother-in-law had one 33 years ago and all I have to say is my exhusband will be 33 years old this year! She got pregnant with an IUD and if they had tried to remove it they would've aborted him accidently so when she gave birth to him the IUD came out right behind him! I would suggest speaking with your OB/GYN for other options.
