It's not hard, but it will take a while. Your new spouse must petition for you. When the petition is approved, it is forwarded to the US embassy or consulate nearest you, where you will then apply for the visa. Here is all the information your spouse needs to get the process started:

It's not hard at all if you are married to an American citizen because marrying an American citizen is the easiest way to get a green card.

I don't know where you live now. But you or your spouse, if you guys live in the country where you live, need(s) to contact the US Embassy and apply for a green card for you to immigrate to the US legally. I'm sure the US Embassy has the website in your country so just find the website and get the basic information and download the forms and apply for it.

And if your husband lives in the US, he can actually file the document (I-130) for you to come to the US:http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=c67c7f9ded54d010VgnVCM10000048f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextchannel=db029c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD

And I can't really answer how long it will take you to get the visa since I don't know where you live and your situation. The processing time varies so if you have the question for the processing time, contact the US Embassy.

Used to be that the Brit has to apply for a K1 visa, i.e. the spouse is an American citizen, from the US embassy. If the couple were definitely going to get married but weren't then it was a J1. These days with barcoded visas issued only from the US this may have changed.

Well, I think there shouldn't be any problem. All you need to have is to a valid passport, visa along with other documents. I think your spouse would help contacting the US embassy either in your country or in their and asked them to help you both. It would be better if you could have mentioned your country name, as for some countries nowadays US embassy seems to be a bit adament to permit visas, especially after 9/11.

If you are already married (assuming the marriage is genuine) then it is mostly just a matter of filling out the paperwork. You will need a police report and innoculations. Visit uscis.gov for general information and the US Embassy for the country you are in just now for specific information on how they process visa applications.

If the truth of the matter is that he moved to your country, you got married, have stayed married for a few years and you don't have a criminal record (I think the limit is one Daniel O'Donnell CD) then welcome!
