I Have taken my dog for short runs already, trying to build up her endurance. Right now she runs with me for a mile and a half and we do it in about 12min give or take. Is what im doing safe for her? Im just wondering if the hard surfaces can harm her joints. She seems to enjoy jogging along with me and hasnt shown any signs of pain or irritation. I usually run anywhere between 7-10 miles a day, will she ever be able to join me on my "real" runs?

you would be suprised how durable dogs are. my dad and i both run with our 2 dogs and they are good. i think it is fine to take her for runs. the joints aren't an issue. take her on one "rreal" run and if she is fine then i would say go for it. Its great that you take her. she should be fine doing at least 4-5 miles. We take our dogs backpacking and everything. Mine are 5 now and they still do long runs in the morning. Run along.

As long as she builds up to it and you are aware of the signs of heat exhaustion. Dogs do not sweat and can over heat and die quickly. Just make sure you have plenty of water for her and make sure she is not getting over heated or tired. Pit Bulls are made for endurance and are not overly heavy so her joints should be okay. The larger breeds like Mastiffs, Saint Bernards and etc are not designed to run. But pits are pretty solid and well designed

YES! This sort of exercise is great fo her. However, just to be safe, have you vet examine her hips (even her other joints). Build up her endurance slowly untill she can run the entire distance wih you. Be sure not to run her after she eats, to prevent bloat. (Wait a good two hours at least) Talk to your vet about putting her on glucosamine or other joint supplement

Hi,

Dogs are still developing until the are eighteen months of age. It is reccommended that you take the dog for long walks appossed to running before then. Yes concrete is bad for dogs, like humans - Shock damages bones. Why not find a park to run on?
But I suggest you leave this until the puppy is eighteen months old.

yes, your dog should be able to go on your real runs. however u should either have your dog on one of those leaches where it sort of extends, and u push the button and it locks. then u can control how far away your dog is. All dogs will be tempted to run away to go talk with another dog at one point. Leash = life

lol hope it helped!

This is far to hard on her right now, as it puts to much stress on her still growing/developing joints and bones.

You should not do this type of strenuous activity with her until she is fully mature, and you get the okay from her vet.

It may not affect her now, but she may have joint/bone/arthritis problems in the future prematurely.
