Things? and "things" make you jump?
Hmmmmm.
My guess is that as a child, your parents, friends, small relatives, found out that they can get entertained by spooking you with practically anything and they can always expect a hilarious response of seeing you get startled (jump)
And as you grew up, this kept on going on and all of a sudden, you do not respond by jumping anymore.
Is this correct?

My answer is that you
1. Got desensitized. You realized that there was no need for a panic response because invariably there was really no danger.
2. Got tired of entertaining them since you were not getting anything out of it.
