My viewpoint is that most power struggles in world history are directly related to power hungry people who use religion as a tool of manipulation.

What do you think would happen if religion didn't exist?

It would be a more productive and peaceful place.

yes it would be. Then we would stop killing each other for religous reasons. Also we would stop thinking doing things against the law r "ok" because we can be forgiven. We would better appreciate life in earth knowing we don't get a second chance. We would care more for the next generation and try to make the world a better place. We would put forth more effort into science to better our world, to try and solve problems that people have created. I don't know why that sounds so bad to some people. Without religion as a tool of manipulation we wouldn't have terrorists from that source trying to kill us, would we? infact most wars and bloodshed in the past would've dissapeared. No religion is the best choice

I don't think it is possible for religion to cease - there are people in the world who need it.

Take Buddism for example - buddha taught an agnostic religion with no saints, no prayer, no rituals etc. And look what it turned into.

Religion has been used as a tool by the power hungry to manipulate. Let us who want peace and understanding also use religion to our purposes - create a religion of peace and understanding - i think this will work better.

Without religion does not make you either agnostic or atheist. Those are terms for what God is and if he exists at all. Without religion there would be peace. I can agree that wars are fought over beliefs...which is ultimately defeating and not very bright. But it is a power struggle.

Its probably never going to happen, and there are other manipulative tools, religion is just one of them.

If everybody was informed about the world and made their own decisions after looking at information from various sources and thinking all decisions that affect others through with others in mind, the world would probably be a lot better

It would mean levels of education had gone up so probably yes, if it was merely that a magic wand had been waved and everyone became atheist or agnostic then no, the underlying problems would still be there.

I so totally agree with you!
It's like I read in "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair, only modified: I don't mind christianity, it's just the christians i don't like.

It's an excuse for power. Get rid of all of it.

religion is an immature level of understanding of mankind. where everyone have to pass through it. if it be given a thorough time of logical thinking. a person will mature. its like Santa Claus for children. world will be better if everyone is mature

Joseph Stalin had an overly christian father and a deformed arm to show for it. He had many problems with the church and atheist or not, the church still created that monster. Out of his hatred for the church he did what he did.

We could spend our time, energy and money on things that were useful. Religion is a waste, even watching Bay Watch reruns is more productive.
