I recently moved to Colorado with my husband and daughter. We signed up for base housing. The problem is, my husband will be moving back home for a while because he can't get a job. Will I get BAH for him or do I have to move off base in order to get BAH?

if your base housing is PPV, you will continue to receive BAH at the rate you are currently getting, but it will go directly back to the housing office. If your housing is NOT PPV, you have forfeited your right to BAH. You will not be authorized BAH just because you choose to live seperately. You are not entitled to receive BAH anywhere but where you are stationed, UNLESS you have Unacompanied orders.

No matter where your husband is you will receive BAH. If the housing on base is privatized, your entire BAH will go to the housing office. Fort Carson has gone to this and you may want to consider moving off post. My wife and I lived on Ft. Carson and we were paying almost $1,300 for a two bedroom house. We recently moved off post and are saving almost $500 for the same size house we lived in on post. Just something to consider...

Basic allowance for Housing is only provided directly to you if you live off base. If you are provided with base housing you will not receive BAH. You will get your BAS though.
