Honestly, it's the individual animal's personality, not the breed type, that will determine whether it is compatible with your dog. Please adopt! When adopting from a shelter, you'll often be asked to bring the dog you currently own to the shelter to meet any potential adoptees. When the two dogs meet, both you and the shelter's behavioral councilor can assess the likelihood of your animals getting along.

Animals in shelters desperately need homes, and you're in the fortunate position of being able to save one! In my opinion, adoption is the only way to go!

I would have to say without a doubt a Labrador Retriever. I have owned tons of different breeds but never fell in love with a breed until I met and then got my first Lab. They get along with everyone and everything. They are the best dogs for other dogs and are easy to train because of the high intelligence. They are the most loving loyal, affectionate, dedicated, intelligent and versatile breed. I would never be without one again. You do not have to worry about them fighting or biting anyone and they are just so loving and out going.

A Yellow Lab or a Golden Retriever.

It doesn't really matter what breed you get as long as the dog fits in with your life. Although, if both dogs are alpha-dogs, both will compete to be the leader. If you get a dog, bring your first one to meet him/her and make sure they get along.

a dog similar in size from the SPCA. the most important thing to remember is not the breed but how well your dog gets along with your new dog, thats what counts.
