You need to take the cat to a vet. Cats can sometimes stop eating and drinking when they have a cold, because they do not smell the food, and can't eat. Then they also do not drink and can become dehydrated. Better safe, than sorry.

It's fine to wait a couple of days, but cold symptoms in a cat could be a sign of more serious illness. One thing you might do to alleviate congestion is have the cat remain in your bathroom while you shower; the steam from the the shower will help relive some of the sinus pressure (the cat will probably sneeze a few times at the end of your shower). If the symptoms are present for a week or more, you should definitely bring your cat in to the vet.

If you can't get to a vet right away, give your cat a steam bath in the bathroom. Turn the hot water on all the way in the shower....allow the room to fill up with steam. Now, turn the water off and have your cat sit in the room with the door closed. The steam will drop once the water is off and your cat will get some much needed relief. Do this a few times a day. You do need a vet visit though...URI can get nasty and your kitty needs antibiotics.

If possible, you should take it to a vet. My vet suggested using a vaporizer with my kitten when she got an upper respiratory infection. He also gave her a shot and a prescription for antibiotics.
Cats rarely show symptoms of illness, so if your cat has visible symptoms, it could be really sick. A cat's health can also deteriorate very quickly (a cat can die within 48 hours of first symptoms), so keep a close eye on it. If it stops eating or drinking for more than a day or seems unsteady on its feet, take it to the vet immediately.

You really need to take it to the vet. Colds can be a serious matter for cats, even fatal if not cured properly. The vet needs to prescribe a medicine for it (usually an antibiotic).

do see a vet, there is no self help option. our cat had the same symptons this is nearly always cat flu. and apart from the fact every cat that isn't vaccinated that your cat comes into contact with will catch the flu. our cat had to be put down because we took it to the vets too late.take the cat to the pdsa or rspca if you can't afford the fees

By not wanting to go to vet, the assumption is not wanting to spend money.

By not taking your pet to the vet could end up causing more financial difficulties later should the problem escalate.

Not to mention endangering the life of your pet.

The responsible thing would be to take your pet to the vet to get treatment it needs.

Why no vet?

Your cat needs medical attention, especially if she is losing her appetite and the discharge colour is greenish.
