It depends what progtrams you use, if all your software is MS then the first option but if you want Firefox as your default browser then you'd use Custom.
But theat won;t speed up your pc.
- Uninstall any programs you don't need, especially if you have the installation disc.
- Delete any old files you don't need, back up others to external storage.
- run an anti spyware.
- Run Ccleaner, use the Issues tool and the cleaner.
http://www.ccleaner.com
- Then defragment your hard drive from start - programs - accessories - system tools - disc defragmenter.
- Use Winpatrol to stop some of your software loading on startup, leave your anti virus but you don't need everything to load it just uses up RAM.
http://www.winpatrol.com
- Install more RAM.
Theres a list of software on my blog if you don't have an anti spyware.

What you're trying to do in control panel won't solve your problem.
Once a year or so, I format my computer and reinstall Windows and everything else from scratch. It works a treat but might be a bit drastic for some. Your PC most likely came with a rescue disk that will restore it to factory defaults. You might like to look into this.
Other than that, try
i) Defragging your hard drive
ii) Pick Run from your Start Menu and type msconfig into the window that appears. You'll be able to see what programs start up when you load windows. You don't need to have all of these running and they can slow you down. The beauty of msconfig is that if you're not happy with what you've done, you can go back
iii) Run a program like CC Cleaner (freeware program)
iv) Delete unwanted files. If your computer's hard disk is filling up, it'll slow you down.
v) Run anti-virus and anti-spyware programs (e.g. Spybot, AdAware, Ewido) - these can wreak havoc.
vi) I use a program called Registry Mechanic which is quite good at cleaning out shrapnel from the registry. It's not free though...

You could Run MSConfig and try Disable All in Startup. If OK enable a few at a time to find which is responsible. Clues can be via Task Manager, Processes to see if any are using excessive CPU time. Then by adding View, Select Columns, Memory options, see if any are using lots of RAM. Also, via Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, Disk Controller (IDE Channel?), Advanced Settings, check that disk is running in DMA mode and not the very slow PIO mode. Windows can revert to this if disk errors have occurred.

If you have tried everything and nothing worked, would strip it completely (backing up any files you want to keep to disk beforehand), clean it and reinstall everything.
If you don't want to go that route, check for any unused files or programs, delete them, run a thorough virus and spyware program, then defrag.
Good luck! :)

The main reasons for computers running slow is because they normally always have only one drive(PARTITION) and everything sooner or later gets to be fragmented. just go to the following website cause it has very good computer tips.
