This question obviously implies that you believe in a creator or creators. ;-) If you don't thats fine.

I personally believe the universe is beautiful, good and bad, it works.

I don't think that yahoo has enough room from me to explain all the different meanings of the words God and messed-up, nor should I really have too, I would think most know.

For your question to be interesting you have to say what "God" is, or a range of things it might be, and what you mean by "messed-up". My guess is you, or at least others think the universe is "broken" because it is clearly not designed to create only pleasure. This is called hedonism.

If I were God, I'd understand (and I don't presume to now) that because human beings suffer it doesn't necessarily mean there's something "wrong" with the universe. Unfortunately, we don't have the scope or perspective to judge the universe, but only to prefer or not prefer it to other imaginary universes. And that is merely a selfish game.

I prefer imaginary universes where children aren't killed and ponies don't get abused to the one we're actually in. This says nothing about the universe, but only about my own ability to process the necessity/significance of pain. Let me reiterate, I have plenty of qualms about suffering; I just think it is our own mental limitations which cause us to dislike existence as it actually is, and not because there is no God or because God is cruel or stupid. I suppose if I were omniscient, etc., I would *necessarily* have a different take on what is important and how it all should go, thus I'm not surprised that we extremely ignorant and tiny things seem to fight against God and the universe on a daily basis.

I think God as most people define it is above error and reproach, thus a more astute question might be: "why do I feel like the universe ought to make us have pleasure all the time and never pain?" Since the fault can't be on a perfect God's side or on a mindless universe's side, and thus is a function of our imagination contrasting with our reality.

To those who think that God's creation is perfect, then u must have a different view of perfection.

The bible points out where God messed up by the fact that it says he repented in Gen-6:6,7 which means that this God made a mistake, was feeling sorry for it and seeking forgiveness all at the same time. He did it again in Ex-32:14.

Personally I always thought He should have stopped with kittens and butterflys. They ARE His best and brightest ideas after all.

I'm sure Lucifer thought pretty much the same thing. But his response was so typically male. In effect he said to God Almighty, "Shove over stupid and lemme show you how it oughta be done." We've been told the result of THAT boo-boo.

My response is equally typically female. You made the mess. You clean it up. You created the problem. You solve it. You want my help, just ask. Of course, that is exactly what He did. His Son came and cleaned up the mess, solved the problem and asked our help in the doing.

So what's your response to His request?

The only way God messed up is loving the one third that followed Satan in the rebellion.
That's why we are born innocents through the womb.
God could have destroyed Satan and the one third right then and there.
But, no, God loved you and now we have this earth age.
People just are not aware of what lengths God has gone through to give them a choice of eternal life or eternal death.
