Drew....what you are describing could be a few things...BiPolar Disorder, Manic Depression as well as Anger / Agression issues (if you have the opposite response)

See a professional. Next time you feel that way..sit down, count backwards from 100 and just breath. Think about what was really said and qualify it by telling yourself there is not a need to be so blue. That what was said was not that big of deal....but seriously...they make meds for that!
Good luck.

People do feel this way from time to time - and winter time, when many of us feel a bit down and moody over the short days is a very likely time. Taking St. John's Wort through the winter months can help the daylight thing. Otherwise, it's just being human. It could be a hormone change, something we eat (like sugar, processed foods, etc.) or it could trigger a subconsious memory. Take good care of yourself when you feel this way and don't over indulge in anything.

Of course, since I have had children I have some days when a tv commercial will make me cry - that is surely a hormonal thing. For women, Wild Yam cream is the best for this.

Peace!

I get the same. Some psychiatrists don't accept it, but there is a type of bipolar disorder that causes rapid mood swings in a single day, called ultradian cycling. Most Bipolar patients have a much longer period of mania and depression and a few cycles a year.

It's normal for some people. It's called depression or you're bipolar. Depression is that you get so depressed that you want to commit suicide and bipolar is mood change. One minute you're happy and laughing, the next you're crying out tears and the next you're throwing all this stuff around and saying crap to others. And another thing is you're getting your period or you're pregnant. Sorry, but I'm not touching that one with a 60 foot pole.

When someone reacts so quickly to something going on outside of themselves, it is because we somehow have given some of our power to them (or the outside world in general). For example, if all of my self-worth is determined by the feedback I get from those around me...it follows that I will react to them more because I've let them define me. When you have a better sense of who you are (which happens with lots of introspection or with growing older), input from outsiders (anyone but you) starts to matter less and less and you will feel more grounded. When you are younger, some basic study of Buddhism (I'm not a Buddhist) can be helpful for getting a better understanding of who you are.

The mood that I'm already in determines the way I react to daily events - but I have been known to change temperament in an instant if I'm PMSing.

That's very normal, especially during puberty.

No that's not very normal. If it effects your daily life it should be diagnosed.
