When studying Scripture, it needs to be done in context. Who was being written to at that time? What were the cultural norms involved?
Christians do not know ancient history or culture. They tend to interpret Scripture from today's frame of mind, which often leaves them floundering for logical explanations.
This is why you get such quick changes of heart, AND bad theology.

I did not respond with that answer, BUT I will respond to the Topic!

Many Uninformed Persons, having Never Taken any Bible Courses, Nor done Studies in the OT Hebrew and NT Greek = Phrase Questions to try and trip up those Ignorant about the Holy Scriptures!

First, you PROBABLY took the Verse OUT OF CONTEXT, which is a PreText for ERROR!

Second, One Cannot Build a Theology on A Single Verse! May I give you an Example?

1. Judas went out and Hanged Himself

2. Go out and do in Like Manner

3. What you do, DO QUICKLY!

A Single verse taken out of it PROPER CONTEXT is what has happened!

Perhaps you could take a Bible Course on Hermeneutics?

Thanks, RR

What do you mean?

The old testament is as relevant as the new. It is just not applicable to practice these laws now that Jesus died and the new laws are in place.

There were horrible things we did in American history as well that no one would say we should do now. Maybe at that time they were relevant but Americans have changed their tune REAL QUICK too

God Bless

What's the point? To really get the full benefit of God's word I think you should study both the old and the new testament. Since you sound angry at Christians I'm assuming you're not one, so why does it bother you? Yes, the world was very rough back then...it's history.

The Old Testament shows us how not to act, the New Testament shows us how to act. Jesus Christ was to be the source of scripture in the Old Testament, but Satan pretended to be God and fooled everyone. Lookup what Sinai means, and what Jesus said about that mountain and Jerusalem.

Those horrible things will sometimes be used to justify their beliefs about how they pass judgment.

dear professor of theology,
are there evils in the Old Testament....yes.
are the evils carried out by Christians....NO.
there were NO Christians in the Old Testament.
if you spend so much time in the Bible
trying to cast doubt on it, I hope God soon
opens your eyes to His Truth.
it is right under your nose.

Much of the horror is REAL HISTORY-- it is the leaders of today who are continually re writing ours.
