cats are better

My 19 year-old baby Rikki went to Kitty-Heaven early last year. He was a trip in life; in fact, by the time he left me he had used up all nine of his lives ... and then some. He'd lost a leg about 9 or 10 years ago; but not 5 minutes after he was released from the hospital he was raring to go on his remaining three. My niece called him Tripod. I'll bet that, if he hasn't been reincarnated yet, he's up there giving old Morris, or whoever is King - or Queen -of Kitty-Heaven, a true run for their money. My 18 year-old Rex proved late last year that "All Dogs Go To Heaven" ... eventually. Rex was quiet, dignified and loyal. In the beginning, however, he was a little devil. I didn't like him at first, and he knew it. I remember one time, when Rikki was about 3, I pulled into the drive to find Rikki flat on his back, with Rex hovering over him. Rex looked through the car window, past the other people in the car, straight into my eyes; then he very deliberately put a paw on Rikki's chest, pressing him down into the dirt. Still watching my reaction, he opened his mouth and clamped his teeth down on Rikki's throat. I thought that cat was a goner! I jumped out the car, shaking, chased Rex away, and checked Rikki. Rikki was shaking in rage, but otherwise all right. That little smart-*** Rex had just been trying to rattle me!!!

After that Rex never bothered Rikki again. We grew closer; at least me and Rex. Rex and Rikki had a mutual understanding ... Rikki tolerated Rex ... barely. And Rex avoided Rikki.

They both have their own unique personalities, cats and dogs. I always loved cats, and hated dogs ... but only because, from the time I was small, dogs always ran into our yard and chased our cats up the tree. Rex taught me to give dogs a chance.

I couldn't say which one is better. I think that, whenever I'm ready, I want to get another cat ... but probably because I already have another dog. Whodie was already with us when Rex died, and it took me a long time to get over Rikki. But no matter what I end up doing, I'd have to say that Rikki and Rex proved the age-old adage:

DOGS COME WHEN THEY'RE CALLED: CATS TAKE A NUMBER AND GET BACK WITH YOU LATER!!!

depending on what you are looking for in a pet. I personally have 3 cats and 1 dog. I have the best of both worlds. If you want a pet with little responsibility then get a cat. A dog requires a lot more love, attention and exercise than a cat does.

I can't say that one is better than the other as I have 4 female cats and 1 female dog. I love them all the same.

shoot yeah! You don't see people walking a cat at 2am because it has to go outside! lolol But I've had cats and dogs both. I like cats for that reason above so if you go on vacation, you don't have to rely on others to watch and walk the dog for you. And if you don't have relatives, the kennel can be a bit pricey.
But I also like cats for their unique personality. Some can be more lovey than others. And they're not quite so much the bed hoggers at night compared to oh, a German Shepherd (my old dog *sniff sniff*).

I wouldn't say cats are better. They are less work than a dog. I think dogs are much more affectionate with owners than cats. It depends on what traits you want in a pet.

Oh yes, no contest. Dogs are like kids - they often force you to do stuff that you don't want to do (like walk them, find a babysitter when you go out of town, pet and play with them 24/7 etc.). Cats are like roommates and friends - winning their affection seems like a prize and they are happy doing their own thing and connecting from time to time rather than always hocking you.

Peace!

You know both of them are so lovely ,but cats are more independent and you can take care of them so easily ,I've heard the owner can choose a dog but cats choose their owners! and its true ,i really love cat's character!
