I found this really quick recipe for Chocolate Mousse and it says I need 1-1/2 cups heavy cream but I'm not really sure what heavy cream is. If I don't have heavy cream, what would be a good substitute instead?

You need heavy cream. Also known as heavy whipping cream. (it is unsweetened, unflavored, unwhipped - whipped cream) It has a butterfat content of 36-40%
Anything less you will not get the volume in the mousse.
(The next closest thing would be light whipping cream, then table cream, then half and half All with diminishing butterfat content.)

Heavy cream is used for making whipped cream; your recipe specifies it to lighten up the chocolate mixture .... however if you don't have any, there reallly is no substitute, unless you have some Redi-Whip on hand and don't mind it....It is a little difficult for me to answer your question because I see you are new at cooking, but the only thing you could do is to whip some eggwhites mixed with sugar if the eggs are pasturized, otherwise you run a health risk with raw whites...... this step would give the mousse a lift

The easiest way to make mousse is to add cool whip to chocolate pudding. Make instant pudding and fold in the cool whip. Yummy
