It cheimcally straightens a person's hair through this system. There's an activator, the actual relaxer, shampoo, conditioners, and so on. You can put a relaxer in virgin hair to straighten it but once that's been done you only apply it to the new growth to keep the new growth straight.

How long relaxers actually stay in the hair for me is unknown. But I have to reapply every 6 to 8 weeks. For me it looks straight and not wavy or curly. Just plain jain straight hair.

A relaxer is a chemical that straightens the hair. It is NOT LIKE A PERM; it is the opposite,a perm makes straight hair curly!!! With Black folks (like me) you cannot tell that the hair is relaxed because it could also be straightened with a straightening comb. With other ethnicity's, there is a relaxer, Japanese I think, that makes the hair very silky straight. I know a bunch of women who have done this and their hair is beautiful.

A relaxer is way different than a perm. A perm makes hair curly and a relaxer straightens your roots making it more manageable.

A relaxer is like a perm. It straightens and relaxes your hair, making it more silky and easier to maintain.
