It is not a religion proper mainly because it has divided the mankind into believers and non-believers and intolerance against the non-believers in the name of Allah. It compels its followers not to accept any thing contrary to what is written in the Koran. It is a cult since it approves violence in the name of Jihad.

Personal opinion? Must be, because unless you are having one on ones with the Divine you don't actually know which religion is the truth, any more than anyone else does.
Faith that you are right is not proof that you are right.
Islam fits the requirement to be called a religion:

Just because it has about 1500 million followers it can not be a true religion. As some has said above and rightly so, it is a cult. How come a man having many wives still feels the need of a girl of barely 9 years old as his wife. His carnal appetite is proof enough that he was not a true prophet and his was not a true religion.

There are many false religions in the world which thrive because of ignorance of people who follow it. Islam is first of its kind. But even intelligent and educated people continue as Muslims because it is highly risky to question the validity of any thing in Koran for a Muslim. See what happened to Rushdie, the Indian Muslim and Nazma Tashlima, the Muslim female doctor from Bangladesh?
The Muslim intellectuals are compelled to compromise so that they can at least survive.

It is a cult and not a religion started by a person who had 22 wives ranging from woman 12 years elder than him and a girl 36 years younger than him. He fought and being defeated fled. And again organized violence and wars against his opponents. How such a person start a religion? It is a cult which believes in violence.

Islam if by far not alone in being a false religion.... as a Christian I believe that any faith that is contrary to the gospel of Jesus Christ...... any other doctrine is false in my opinion.
Thats not a judgement but rather a statement meant to answer the question asked. To a muslim all but Islam is false......as well as wiccan hindu.... you name it.... to the people of that faith all other faiths are considered false. Islam is in no way alone in that description.
