There would be a lot of movement of people at first.
Living standards and wage rates would go up in poor countries; rich countries probably wouldn't suffer economicly, but there would be a lot of pressure on minimum wages and the like.
Governments would probably restrict access to health services to citizens - non-citizens will die on the street if they can't pay their way - but what happens now is they die on the street out of sight in another country so we don't have to feel guilty about it.
Eventually we would have to face the reality of the fact that we are all humans with the same rights and needs, regardless of where we were born.
World peace is probably too much to hope for, but it would be a start!

It would be the end of the world as we know it. The Social Security System would dwindle faster than it already is. The Welfare System would go bankrupt, So many American's would be out of work because the immigrants work so much cheaper than Americans and demand no benefits. Crime would go sky high. The Education system would fail cuz they wouldn't be able to keep up with the demands of education for our children. They can't keep up with it now as it is, how would they handle half a million or more children?
I think it would be the end of any symblance of world peace, not the end result of world peace.

People would flock to the countries that they like, people looking for a better like or more money would flood countries that couldn't handle it and welfare and aid systems would be taxed forcing governments into unique situations. Plus, despite the best intentions of an open border there would be no security, nothing would stop someone from another country from then walking across an open border intending to do harm to that nation or nation's populace. Why would peace result? If everyone left their doors unlocked at night would there be no burgalries?

It would cause disturbances all over the world. That is exactly what world leaders are striving for. When they open borders, people will be fighting over every conceivable issue you can think of. They will be fighting over 'territory', jobs, wages, who has more rights than others, who was here first.........hmmmm, sounds like the fighting will be over the same things people are fighting over now, only it will be on a larger scale. I don't believe open borders is going to be good for anyone in any country. Revenue, taxes, identities, citizenships, criminals, will all be more difficult to keep up with. I think it will only be more confusing.

Problem that comes is the country's ability to be sovereign.
Look at the Middle East! In a lot of ways they are like Mexico. All of the people have similiar names and all look alike! I strongly suspect that there are the same 100,000,000 Shi'ites, whether from Iran, Iraq or Syria, marching around being Iraqis one day, Syrians the next, Jordanians for a month-then Ahmadinejad tells them to flood into the Palestinian terretories to support Ha-mas Etc.!
Millions of poor people in a part of the World where a Policeman risks his and his family's lives for $500/Mo. can easily be supported by an Oil Wealthy State like Iran!

Mass exodus from many poor nations.Over population and confusion in first world nations.Languages and cultural difficulties, would bring nations to a stand still. The "free" nations would crumble and fall into total destruction under the weight of people. And become 3rd and 4th world country's.Then like a plague they would move from nation to nation until they have destroyed the world as we know it.
There will never be World Peace. Its a pipe dream of delusional people that don't know or see all the facts.Wish full thinking.

Horrible diseases would spread because no one would be checked at the borders.
Even now people can walk into the United States carrying some virus that could wipe out half the population, but our government just lets them come on in!

During the Roman Empire there were open borders throughout the known world. There was also a common Language (Greek), thanks to Alexander the Great. The result was called the "Pax Romana." THE ROMAN PEACE! Today, it would be called (what you said), "WORLD PEACE!"

Everyone would go to the USA, UK, Canada or Australia and the rest of us would live in relative peace.
All the immigrants here in Italy say this is just a stepping stone for one of those countries.

i dont think its will ever be a good idea.. i can bet there will be lots of war and take over of the land between tribal or any groups..
no peace .(its like we will be back to the olden centuries) the idea of having a border is to be able to control over whats happening over the land.. imagine if its open and who will rule who and where.. its a major disaster really
