what is going to happen? Is it going to install anyway, or give me a warning saying that I don't have the enough requirements, like (RAM etc), because I know that I don't have enough MG of RAM for installing XP but if I try is the computer going to tell me if I can't continue the installation?

If your system doesn't have enough hard drive space, it will give you an error message and won't let you continue.

Otherwise, it'd just run really slow.

If you're stuck between deciding whether to use Windows 98 or Windows XP, you may also want to try Windows 2000. It's what Windows XP is based on, but doesn't include half as many gadgets to it, thus it will run faster on slower systems.

Since Windows XP is based on 2000, nearly anything that will run on Windows XP will also run on Windows 2000. However it is worth noting that Windows Messenger Live does not run on 2000, only MSN Messenger 7.0 (prior version).

Hope this helps,
Ken

If the computer doesn't meet the requirements the install will stop and inform you that the computer doesn't meet the requirements. According to Microsoft, here's what you need to use Windows XP Home Edition:

• PC with 300 megahertz (MHz) or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233-MHz minimum required;* Intel Pentium/Celeron family, AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended

• 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)

• 1.5 gigabyte (GB) of available hard disk space.*

• Super VGA (800 × 600) or higher resolution video adapter and monitor

• CD-ROM or DVD drive

• Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device

There is a program you can download which will examine your hardware and let you know if your PC will support WinXP. Please note that I was told my Pentium III, as is, will not.

Windows XP Upgrade Advisor

Check your hard drive to see if it will tolerate WinXP
If your current version of Windows is eligible for upgrade to Windows XP, you can use Upgrade Advisor to make sure your hardware and software are compatible with Windows XP.
Note You may use Upgrade Advisor to check for upgrade eligibility and compatibility information for Windows XP Home Edition with the following exception: It is not possible to upgrade from Windows NT® 4.0 or Windows 2000 Professional to Windows XP Home Edition
