We used to think it was funny and call it his lick spot, but now there is a spot that the vet shaved about 8 monthes ago and when ever you pet him there he frantically licks himself and even bits himself. I don't want to see the poor little guy hurt himself. WHy would he do this and how can I stop it?

If it is from being neutered, he could be STILL trying to keep it clean. Next time you go to the vet make sure there are no complications. There are basically two reason for keeping it clean: either it is necessary because there is an infection or such, or he is delusional. My cat went delusional to the 9th degree and I can tell yo unow, that until your cat has licked off all of his fur and is making himself bleed, there is really nothing to do or for you to do.

As for his biting, he isn't biting himself hard, he is just trying to groom out matts in his fur, real or not.

Good luck with your cat!

Well, I guess don't pet him there, but I would check with the vet. You don't say why your cat was shaved. If it was for surgery or to repair an injury, there may be some residual nerve damage there and when you pet him, it may feel to him like pain or itching. My cat was in a fight 2 months ago and he is just now healing up, but he still has a limp, which the vet said may be due to cartilage damage. Good luck to you.

It could just be a sensitive spot and when you touch it, he feels the need to clean it. I don't think he'll hurt himself, but I would leave that spot alone for now and if you see any injuries from him biting then contact your vet. Its a good idea to give them a call anyway and explain what your cat is doing. They might know something we here don't and can give you the best advice.

Your cat might want to probable be allergic to the rabbit itself. try searching up rabbits and the parasites they could get, and if cats can get them too. also, tell your veterinarian about the rabbit. each and every now and then cats obsessively lick through three type of behavioral problem. solid success.
