How easily does he get bored? IF you're spending all your time finding new things to keep him occupied, I would say he is advanced. Possibly even gifted.
Its certainly not normal.
And there is nothing wrong with memorizing a book. It shows he has an excellent memory. Just keep reading the story and point to the words, so he knows what each word looks like. Thats what I do with my son. Point out words on street signs and shop signs, and explain their meaning.
I taught my son the meaning of EXIT when he was 2. Now when ever there is a fire drill he knows exactly how to get out of the building. Follow the Exit signs.

I have to girls 3 & 2. By the age of 2 they were able to
sing abc
reconise letters on flash card
count to 10
write letter Aa, Oo, Cc, & Xx. I go with the easy ones
Recoinse shapes, colors, animals, and every day things you use
And more
I guess its how much you work with your child.
When you say read-count
do you mean he can read the number 1-10
or read words?
If he can read words like read a book that is amazing. Some kids who knows letters know 3 letter words mean.
My 3 year old. Will tell you what each letter sounds in a word and then when she does she gets the word right. its pretty cool
sounds like your a great mom~~

Is he really reading or does he have the book memorised? I would be very excited if my child learned so quickly like yours. Counting from 1 to 10 is probably no concern. Does he recognise his numbers?
I would talk to a doctor and see what they have to say. There is a disorder I learned about in psy. but I do not remember what it is called. It is when a child seems to be very gifted at an early age but as they get older it starts to dimish. I am not trying to scare you and I could be way off key on this one considering I have not yet received my bach. in psy. I am still in the learning phase.
He could be a very gifted child. If it were me I would talk to a doctor about it. If your child has been going to the doctor for shots and check ups and the doctor is aware of your child's gifts and hasn't said a word to you about it being abnormal than I wouldn't worry about it. I would be very happy because it will make his school years of education so much more enjoyable for him.
Good luck to you and your son.

Be gald that he is advanced. I hope my daughter can count to 10 by the time she is 22 months, right now we are just stuck to counting to 5. she is 15 months old. Thats an awesome achievement for a 22 month old. Congrats

Completely normal my son was the same way close to that age he's now 5 and a dinosaur expert he knows more dinosaurs than I've ever heard of and says things like carcharodontasaurus means sharp toothed lizard he lived in north Africa and was 5 meters longer than t-rex but smaller than spinosaurus but because spinosaurus was a specialist carcharodontasaurus was the top predator of the area it's crazy just don't let him get bored and he'll stay slightly ahead

He's well stimulated and educated. Iam sure you spend a lot of time with him letting him explore is world, reading, and playing little educational games. Just about all children with one on one development time like this are well advanced.
I believe according to todays standards he's well advanced. But i think thats unfair to all the other children who dont recieve the positive stimulation that produced this love for learning in your child.
I raised my brother, and by his 2nd birthday he could count to 50 on his own, reconize letters and small words, and solve basic addition problems (ie. "Adam, if you have two candies, and I give you two candies more, how many candies do you have?"). But again, like you, I spent TONS of time with him, and he was an eager learner.
keep it up! My brother is now 16, graduating, and getting paid to go to college.

Some kids can count before 2. but if he can read also that is very amazing. Sounds like you have been really working with him. My kids starting most things early also. He is definitely normal with a high desire to learn at a very young age.

He's in a hurry! I think at 22 months he's still very young, but clearly very inquisitive and a very fast learner. My little girl also started to walk at 10 months, and the Pediatrist told me that she was very fast - definitely faster than her peers. But there is certainly nothing wrong with your son. You should be VERY proud! (Perhaps a little Einstein in the making?) =)

It sounds like he is advanced but dont push him. Let him be a kid! Why are you so concerned? Are you looking to get compliments for being a super parent? If youre looking for praise from other people thats an issue. You should get all the praise you need when he smiles at you!

It seems that he is on the high side of average or a little above. It is hard to tell when kids are so young. Most kids even out in grade school. Be proud!
