Yes to the first part.

No to the second. The outward physical response that you see is chemical in nature.

The emotional feelings that release the chemicals that evoke the physical response that we see on the outside is intellectual.

Love and blessings

Probably is my answer. We do have control over the Neural networks and pathways in our brain. If we constantly have negatives emotions this can only be a negative thing and have negative consequences on the mind and of the physical body.

i.e If one believes that they can never perform a task and therefore take no exercise their body and well being are affected.

I suppose you would have to define the term addiction. I would say that the constant cycle of negativity could create a psychological addiction. Is this not what severe mental depression is?

I am no expert but great question. Hope I contributed in some way.

Which chemical? Chemicals are physiological, emotions are not. Physical reactions occur from emotive actions but emotions themselves are characteristics of consciousness.
Being miserable is the antithesis of being happy so one cannot be the other. I know there are those who appear to be happier when miserable but this comes from an unfamiliarity with conditions that lead one from misery into more productive states of being. Several factors are involved here ranging from a lack of positive affirmations of ones significance during essential stages of development to a lack of the will to stand up to dominating personality types. Mostly there is a lack of belief in ones value or skills to contribute in social situations without being denegrated for doing so. Everything becomes personal and is seen as an attack. Ironically it is a selfishness that often leads to this disorder where one is unwilling to step out of their own box and recognize the importance of "otherness" in relating to the world.

You are half right, for many, feeling depressed or miserable actually feels like their natural state of being, but chemicals are not the cause of emotions, it is the other way around.

Emotions are a very poor way to describe how one feels.

They are fake sometimes, unreliable and cannot be trusted.

The sub-conscience is where we are REALLY feeling something. So the answer I would give you is yes I think people can get addicted to their emotions . . . .

So many woman fall in love with the same guy who beats them . . . . no self love
Same dead end job but you look for another and over and over your stuck . . . .scared to succeed.

So on and so on.

God Bless

Many Christians have become addicted to emotions, that is why music has become the dominant part of church now. The Bible predicted 2000 years ago that in the last day the church would become a "singing church". People would begin to walk by their feelings not by faith.

Just think about it.

Just what is happiness?

You would get a different answer from every one. (Very subjective.)

Most things in life are what I would say are neutral. You can take them or leave them you just don't pay a lot of attention to them.

Now what is unhappiness? I think that you would find that what makes people unhappy is when things don't go as they would like them to.

So I say happiness is the lack of unhappiness.

So that in a case where things don't go wrong, all is right. And most people would say they are happy. (Maybe) For people seem to always want more.

Emotions are neurological, and they can be affected by anything that can affect the brain. That includes disorders such as clinical depression, which is caused by (you guessed it) a chemical imbalance in the brain.
