Most Christians are taught there is only one God but it says in genisis "Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness OUR being the key would. Also the statement God is the highest of High Gods. This is a clear contradition in the Bible which is correct. How do preachers/pastors explain this?

The royal 'we'?
Simple answer would be they don't explain it, or they'd ask you to take it on faith, or babble something about the trinity.
Who cares? I'm no more interested in the answer than I am in a question about the habits of leprechauns.

An understanding of the Trinity, as taught by the Bible, will clear this right up for you...
I consist of a body, intellect and spirit...God is body (the Son), intellect (the Father), and spirit (the Holy Spirit). God made me in His image, and since I'm not 3 separate entities, there is no contradiction.

There is only one God, but many demi-gods, who have administrative positions within the universe. This lets God just hang out with nothing to do but be with His friends & lovers. The demi-gods control the wind, the rain, the sun, etc., there is a predominating deity of the earth, known as Durga, the name means, dungeon. This place, this earth, is really a prison where eveeryone suffers, wherre everyone dies and everything is destroyed.

Let Us make man... You are sharp one it didn't take you any time at all to see the trinity in the scripture... I know it's says God of gods... The gods it is referring to are the kings over each and every kingdom in the ancient world... You have to know both the Egyptians and the Romans, oh I forgot Alexander the Great, considered themselves to be gods.... God is God of gods.... Jim

Serious?
Our image because God is the Trinity . . . . father, son, holy spirit.
I explain the Trinity as Time . . . .past, present, future
I have seen others and I like it explain it as:
an egg (shell, white, yolk, all still and EGG)
a liquid (vapor . . . .do you get it?)
Look for a better contradiction son than that, then at least you are reading the Bible.
God Bless

although i myself am a Muslim, but there are so many things in common between Islam and Christianity that I can try and answer the question.
In Islam Christianity is also a very valid religion that was also sent from the same true God, who later sent Islam. and that's the reason Muslims are allowed to marry Christian ladies.
Now, to the question: In Quran ( and probably also in Bible) God uses the then popular way of speaking of the dignitaries and royalties, just to make it clear to the people that he was the greatest Lord of the world. I mean that God used : "We told them . . Our help arrived . . . it was Us . . . " refers to God's superiority and does not imply His plurality!

The Trinity Godhead is the Father, Son, & Holy Spirit - ONE God, three manifestations. Most Christians believe that's what's referred to in Genesis. I have multiple personalities myself so this makes perfect sense to me.
Some religions don't believe in the Trinity concept, but most Christian religions do.
