Can I reformat or boot my computer that has Windows 98 SE with a Windows 98 CD/disk (not se)?

Question

Ok I have this computer that has Windows 98 SE. It originally had Windows 98 but the Tech guy who fixed it last time installed the Special Edition. Now I want to reinstall Windos 98 SE because it has too many mistakes, but I just have the cd's and disks for Windos 98 not the Special Edition.

Are they compatible?

Now I am trying to download Windows 98 SE online to see if I can make burn a cd or disk myself but is that going to work?

Windows 98 SE is simply the Second Edition of Windows 98. There are a few differences, some security updates and bug fixes but for most people the differences are small. Some people consider the SE version to be worse off than the original.

Any program that worked on Windows 98 SE will still work on Windows 98, as the base is the same thing.

Technically, Windows 98 SE is supposed to be more secure, but so long as you're behind a router or firewall and are careful when surfing the internet, you should be fine.

Windows 98 SE is considered out of date by Microsoft and they no longer provide updates for anyway, so if you're not careful chances are SE wouldn't provide you any better protection and you'd have to reinstall again anyway. (Like now.)

You should be able to boot from the disc and format your drive. Then you will install Windows 98. One might question why you would want to use 98. If you have enough RAM and hard drive space, I would move up to XP.

Create a bootable floppy disk and boot from it. Then variety the command format c: /s /v and press enter. then you definately can boot up with the CD to reinstall ninety 8 if that's what you're attempting to do. superb of success actual solutions for actual human beings.
