Sounds like I have super hero kitties but it's a real problem. I have two cats, one male and one female who are running around like little balls of static electricity. We live in Michigan where the winters get really dry. Is there anything I can put in their food or water or on them to make them a little less shocking? It is a funny situation but I'd really like to pet my cats without little pops of electricity. Any suggestions are helpful, Thanks!

It is not just your cats that are dry and "shocking". Although a little oil on their food will help keep their coats healthy if the fur is dry, you really should consider adding humidity to the whole house. It will help you as much as your kitties.

We live in the desert where it is dry all the time, but especially indoors in the winter with the furnace going. All of us need the moisture in the air. Air that is too dry is not healthy.

It would probably help to put out some pans of water, to help keep humidity in the air. If you can set a couple close to your heat vents, that will help. Even better, leave an old coffee can or a tea pot full of water on your stove, turned on low. This will help with your heat bill also, as it makes the air feel warmer. Just be careful not to let it run dry, or leave it on when you go to bed or leave the house - as it could be a fire hazard.

I would was some hand towels and use extra fabric softner in the rinse, keep these handy to rub on the cats to take out some of the static from their fur. Since cats groom themselves alot DON'T rub the fabric sheet on the cats.

Humidifiers really help and aren't that expensive.
