Losing weight and walking will help you get in shape but it doesnt give you the stamina needed for running as you exert more work on your heart and lungs whilst running than when you are walking so even if you can walk for 2 - 3 hours at a go you would still have trouble running for alot less than that.

that website has a good schedule to get you running 5km in around 2 months.
I go trekking every other weekend and we usualy trek for around 6hrs a day with around 16kgs in back packs which I don't find hard but i would lose my breath after running only a couple of minutes, its not just you're muscles that you have to train but also your heart and lungs.

Right now I am not a runner. I would love to run but I am overweight and it hurts my knees, back, and everywhere else. I imagine that losing the weight will relieve those pains and that walking will build up your "wind".
Walking fast might even be better.
And thank you for a question that was about exercise and not just "How can I lose weight without exercise and still get into running shape".
Good Luck with your program.

It's a great start to work you up to running. To get in good running shape though, you will have to gradually add in running as well. But eating right and moderate exercise is the best way to loose weight.

Wlaking and running actually burn about the same amount of calories. Wlaking is a bit easier on your legs and feet because there is less pounding than in running/jogging. Wlaking is a good start to a running program and good for a warm up, but the only way to get "in shape" for running, is running.
Waliking and eating "right" will help to shed pounds. The objective of "getting into good running shape" is not to lose weight.

The only weight loss plan that works is exercise. Run 2 miles a day, 6 days per week. Get a great pair of running sneakers and clothes that keep you cool while working out. Good Luck

Yes, Continue to Eat nourishing food with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables being part of it. Chew each morsel at least 32 times. This will activate signal to the brain as soon as u have had enough. Besides this change in eating style, take regular light exercises and brisk walks every day. U will be able to gain/shed all extra weight gracefully and in a reasonable time span.

Yes it can. I can vouch for this from personal experience. When you walk increase the speed and distance you walk to about a half of a mile or one mile increments every week to two weeks or whatever you feel you can do.
