A darker color should color over fine, but since it was a reddish color it will turn out a bit brassy. Get Color Oops at your local drugstore. In my area its at Walgreens. It will remove the last hair color you did and leave your hair ready for color the same day. I recently used it on my hair and it worked great. Its also ammonia and bleach free so it does not damage your hair. Striping is just damaging but Color Oops isn't.

Good luck

I have gone to school for cosmetology. Here are some suggestions:
1. If you do go to a local school they allow the students to what they call experiment since they are new to doing these things as long as the instructor is there beside them making sure they are doing everything right. If you go there when they do these experiments a lot of time they won't charge you for the products used.
2. Do not buy that stripping stuff for your hair. This will only further the damage already caused.
3. If you do recolor it that is ultimately up to you and you will have to live with your decision. I would wait a few days.
4. The next time use something that washes out within a few shampoos before decided on the permanent ones. The permanent one whether you recolor your hair or not are still going to be in your hair.
5. Recoloring it right now could make it become a brassy color, do not ever use ash colors...because when you shower or swim in a pool that is Chlorinated you will turn your hair green. Just the chlorine alone in your tap water will make that happen.
6. If you do decide to recolor it, i would let it go for a week or two before coloring again.

All depends on your natural hair color and when you dyed your hair. If your natural hair color is dark, then I say redye your hair to the darker color that you want it, but if you have just dyed it I'd wait a couple of weeks before doing so because when you dye your hair it damages it, no matter how many times you do it.

But all in all, I'd say go to a salon and ask someone, or go to a local cosmetology school dept. and ask someone who teaches or is in school there rather than asking on here, then you get a face to face answer :)

If you are going darker, you should be fine without stripping. Stick with "ash" colors. They will tone out the red.
