What kind of relationship do you have with God?

Honestly I am tired of the relationship I have with Him. I want to experience Him in new ways this year but I don't know how to do it. It can be very frustrating. I've always wanted the truth. That's why so many things have come against me. I'm not interested in a superficial relationship with God( worship Him on Sunday then forget about about Him for the next 6 days). Please share your experiences with me on how you have become close to God in ways you never knew you could.

That is a good start, the fact that you want to have a relationship with God. Think about it, when you have family or friends, do you talk to them once a week? Nope! God wants us to get to know him and he wants us to know him. In fact in the Bible he says “Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you.”—JAMES 4:8. Think about that! That is a wonderful invitation from our heavenly father, he wants us to be his friend.

The Bible goes on to assure us that “[God] is not far off from each one of us.”—ACTS 17:27 So you see, he encourages us to seek him out. We have to take the first step.

One of the first steps you have to take is taking in knowlege of God. "This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ" John 17:3 He has given us this knowlegde through his word. He tells us about him, and about his qualites. Something else you would want to do when reading the Bible is meditate on it. Think of it like this.... It is like a letter from God to you, would you throw it in a drawer and forget about it? No! You would read it and think about it, read it again, and think about it and all the while try to apply it in your life.

I'm still working on my relationship with God.
I don't think a relationship with Him will ever be perfect. You've got to keep strengthening it.

I sacrificed some things I like for my religion.

For example, in Islam, it's prohibited to masturbate, listen to music and remove hair from the eyebrows. I stopped those things, and I hope I've recieved reward. Even though it's hard at first, God does help you.

I really do agree with you about the Church on Sunday thing. Why worship God one day and forget about Him then next?
Why pray to him only when you need something and not thank Him for all the good He has given us.

The Quran (the Islamic holy book) says 'If you count God's blessings, you would never number them'

The only way I can think of that brings you closer to God is to pray and read the Bible. Ask Him to help you. Also, look for and compare the different ways God is described in comparison to people i.e. God is Father and we are children, He is the shepeard and we are the sheep, when Jesus called His disciples His friends, when Jesus said that whoever does His will is His family....ect.

Intimate. The most intimate kind possible. In a little while, I am going to throw a banquet in His honor. And at that Banquet, I will partake of His Body and Blood...I will chew Him up and swallow Him down...and I will take His Resurrection Power to the whole world in His Word and Sacraments.

don't know if you are ready for this or not but try not believing in GOD. Believe in a spiritual power with no name. If you must name it, call it "the divine".

Believe that this force is all powerful and can help you in life. The divine can give you healing powers, the divine can cleanse your soul, the divine can erase karma debt, the divine is not a he or a she.
